Accessible PDFs from InDesign

In association with DIG Inclusion, we offer this half-day course on creating accessible PDFs using Adobe InDesign. Completing the course will provide you with all the know-how to produce the most accessible source documents possible.

Prerequisites

No prior knowledge of accessibility issues is required in order to complete this course. However, delegates will need to have a good working knowledge of InDesign, prior to attending the course.

Course outline

Available for InDesign versions CS4, CS5, CS5.5 or CS6. Topics include:

  • Understanding key InDesign version differences
  • Applying structure with headings, lists, hyperlinks …
  • Images, alt text, and handling charts effectively
  • Designing tables for accessibility and usability
  • Colour contrast, colour blindness, backgrounds
  • Text formatting and font encoding issues and techniques
  • Mapping styles to tags
  • Setting reading order
  • Bookmarks and tables of contents – issues and techniques
  • Meta data
